Upper Missisquoi and Trout Rivers Wild & Scenic Committee: Trout River

Thirty-five people spent a beautiful end-of-summer day exploring the beautiful Wild and Scenic Trout River in Montgomery Center and Montgomery Village, and looking for debris left behind by summer visitors. The swimming holes along the Trout are very popular spots, and with popularity comes dropped/forgotten/left-behind evidence. Groups of people targeted the several swimming holes, and other groups walked the stretches between them, looking for more dispersed trash.
Overall, the Trout was in decent condition. In fact, several pieces of large rusty metal were pulled from the river and banks than bottles and wrappers - metal refuse that has perhaps lingered in clean-ups past, when the focus was on the more regular trash. We collected 1 cubic yard of trash, 1/2 cubic yard of scrap metal, and 1 tire, improving 2+ miles of river and 5 swimming holes.
Then we celebrated our accomplishment with pizza and ice cream at Riverwalk Park. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers who spent their beautiful Saturday afternoon taking care of our great river.
